An
emergency security meeting of governors of the south east states of
Nigeria with other leaders from the region is holding at the Enugu state
government house.
Four
governors of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Enugu states as well as the
president general of Ohaneze Ndigbo, deputy senate president and the GOC
82 division of the Nigerian army, among other leaders have arrived for
the Enugu talks, described as crucial.
The
emergency security meeting is coming on the heels of the rising
security tension in the south east region following violent clashes
between soldiers of operation python dance ii and members of the
separatist agitation group, the indigenous peoples of Biafra, IPOB.
The
leader of the indigenous peoples of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu was expected at
the meeting as a follow up to the on-going dialogue initiated by the
governors to douse ethnic agitations but he has not been sighted
anywhere close to the venue of the meeting.
Founder
of the Igbo youth movement, Elliot Ugochukwu-Uko in an earlier
interview told ait that the separatist agitation group leader will not
attend the parley.
The
cities of aba and Umuahia in Abia state have been theatres of violent
clashes since last Sunday and there are fears that this might spread to
other parts of the south east states and the country if not promptly
controlled.
A communiqué is expected at the end of the meeting
