Genene Jones, 66, whom prosecutors suspect of killing up to 60 young children, was charged in the September 1981 death of 2-year-old Rosemary Vega.
She was charged with a separate count of murder in May for killing an 11-month-old boy.
She was scheduled to be released in March under a Texas law that shortens prison terms for well-behaved inmates.
Jones has been dubbed “the Angel of Death” for the mysterious pattern of child fatalities that coincided with her tenure at various facilities, including the San Antonio hospital and elsewhere in Texas.
Children died of unexplained seizures and other complications under Jones’ watch. The deaths sometimes occurred shortly after her shifts had ended.
Medical records that could have pointed to Jones as a culprit were accidentally destroyed, Sam Millsap, a former Bexar County district attorney, told KSAT-TV.
It’s not clear if she is being represented by an attorney in the latest allegations against her.
