A Federal
High Court in Abuja has granted the National Publicity Secretary of the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh bail following charges of
fraud in the arms deal.
Justice Okon Abang while ruling on a bail application yesterday ordered
Metuh to produce the sum of N200 million bail bonds and two sureties in
like sum.
The judge ordered that the sureties must have landed properties each in
the highbrow Maitama District of Abuja.
Also, the sureties must depose to an affidavit of means before the court
registrar. The sureties, the judge held, must deposit their
Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) to the Registrar of the court and
that the Registrar must verify the authenticity of the title document of
the property from the land registry of the Ministry of the Federal
Capital Territory.
The sureties must submit two of their recent passport photographs to the
court registrar.
The judge ordered that Metuh be held in prison pending the fulfillment
of the bail conditions.
Meanwhile, in a statement yesterday by the national secretary, PDP
Professor Wale Oladipo condemned in totality what it termed the “brazen
ýdisplay of authoritarianism” by the federal government in handcuffing
Chief Metuh even when the court was yet to hear his case.
