The English Press has claimed Manchester United are willing to spend a total of £100m (€125m) on Real Madrid’s Angel Di Maria.
AS cites a report from the Daily Mail that says the Premier League side will pay a transfer fee of €62m for the Argentina international and a weekly wage topping €250,000.
Di Maria would join the likes of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie as the club’s highest-paid players if the move went ahead.
United’s League campaign got off to a losing start as Louis van Gaal’s side were on Saturday beaten by Swansea City at Old Trafford, going down to a 2-1 defeat by the Welsh side.
Former Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera started the game in his United debut but was withdrawn after 67 minutes. Spain international Juan Mata, meanwhile, played the full game.
It’s said that United executive director Ed Woodward has been told to do everything possible to sign Di Maria before the transfer window closes at the end of August.
As well as a midfielder, United are said to be in the market for a centre-back.
